Description
This is beautiful, Bohemian Czech art glass vase. The colors play so whimsically together. The glass is marked on the bottom "Czechoslovakia", a mark used by the glassmaker Kralik. It is hard to see, and I have done my best to provide a picture, as it is etched on the glass and takes a certain glare to notice it.The date is the 20th century, circa 1930. The vase is an example of Bohemian furnace decorated glass. The vase is 8 1/8" high and 3 ¼" wide at the mouth.
At the bottom and underside, the glass is a white, blue, & red spatter-glass with the rest of the vase orange glass. There is an outer layer of clear glass, detectable by looking at the rim. There is a black glass winding intended to resemble a snake around the middle of the vase; the head is at the bottom of the winding and the tail is at the top.
The rim is polished flat with no beveling. The bottom is smooth and slightly indented.
The rim has some edge roughness on each side due to the polishing process and can be seen under a strong light as very tiny pinprick nicks; the nicks are impossible to photograph and are part of the glassmaking process. There is a little bit of roughness at the tail of the winding snake and is also part of the glassmaking process. There are no chips, nicks caused by damage, or cracks.
